2025 AMVCA Nominations: Lisabi: The Uprising & Seven Doors Lead the Pack with Ten Nominations.

The Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) 2025 nominees have been announced, recognising outstanding achievements in film, television and digital content for works released between January 1 and December 31, 2024.
The 11th AMVCA ceremony is set to take place in Lagos, Nigeria, from May 7 to May 10, 2025, which features 28 categories, with 10 open for public voting and 18 decided by a panel led by filmmaker Femi Odugbemi. Voting runs until May 4, 2025, via the Africa Magic website.
Lisabi: The Uprising, a historical epic directed by Adedimeji Lateef, has taken center stage at the 2025 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) with an impressive Ten (10) nominations. The film, which tells the gripping story of the legendary Yoruba warrior Lisabi, earned nods in major categories, including Best Movie, Best Actor, Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, and Best Indigenous Language (West Africa).

This year’s Best Lead Actor category is packed with talent, featuring Gideon Okeke (Tokunbo), Uzor Arukwe (Suspicion), Femi Adebayo (Seven Doors) and Adedimeji Lateef (Lisabi: The Uprising), all delivering amazing performances.

Meanwhile, the Best Lead Actress lineup highlights the powerhouse skills of Chioma Chukwuka (Seven Doors), Bimbo Ademoye (Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre) and Uche Montana (Thinline), each bringing intensity and nuance to their roles.

The AMVCAs also introduce an exciting new category: Best Music Score, recognising the vital role of music in shaping narratives. Films like Seven Doors, Inkabi and Skeleton Coast lead the nominations in this category, marking a significant milestone in celebrating film soundtracks.

As the countdown to May 10, 2025, continues, the AMVCAs stand as a testament to the power of Black storytelling and the immense growth of African cinema. With a dynamic mix of industry legends and rising stars, this year’s event promises to be a defining moment for African entertainment.
